Social gatherings over six to be banned in England.
Well, ladies and gentlemen, social gatherings are being restricted once again…
Lockdown can be seen to be a disaster on all fronts. People are still dead, the economy has fallen off a cliff and now the Government are putting the final nail in the coffin.
Now, let’s be realistic here. We knew COVID-19 was not going anywhere for a significant amount of time and we need to learn to live with it. We have a shambles of an economy and a Government intent on making things economically worse. This does not mean for a second that Labour would do a better job – they would not.
Now is the time to get the economy open and get the people of this country back to work – back to school, back to university, back to spending money and back to the office. This country cannot take any more restrictions, which will be disastrous for the working class and, quite frankly, our national finances.
When people on the left say it’s immoral not to put restrictions in place in order to avoid deaths, we must remind them of the fact that the economy is the lifeblood of the country. Without this, we are quite frankly screwed in a spot of bother. Remember, the furlough scheme cannot go on forever.
People tend to forget that these new restrictions have hidden victims, both in the short term such as mental health going untreated, and in long term, with the country potentially being forced back into austerity.
These new restrictions are a slap in the face to all the businesses that are trying to get back on their feet. They will stifle business for the sake of slowing the infection rate for a virus that is not as lethal to people aged between 18-29, where we are seeing the increase in cases but not a large increase in daily deaths.
This virus has put the Government in the awkward situation of a balancing act, balancing the risks of the virus versus the health of the economy. They are getting it wrong, with further restrictions not being ruled out, and even a second lockdown has been touted as possible.
It is now time to get this economy going. Wear a mask, keep socially distanced, but get this economy going for the sake of our country. Further restrictions will only do more harm.
