According to The Guardian, Opinium reports that 55% of people polled in the UK believe that the Black Lives Matter ‘anti-racism’ movement has increased racial tension.
The main findings of the Opinium polling state that:
- Only 17% of people polled in October disagreed that BLM has increased racial division;
- 44% of BAME people felt that BLM has increased racial tension;
- “Another saddening finding is that 46% of BAME people have faced discrimination on multiple occasions, which is an increase from last year”.
According to Opinium, white people were more likely to believe that the BLM movement had increased tensions. The most concerned were Conservative voters, 78% of whom believed that tensions have been inflamed as a result of the BLM movement’s actions.
