Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are facing a fierce backlash after claims of political interference.
During a video recording for Times Magazine, the Duke and Duchess discussed the upcoming US Presidential election, where Prince Harry told voters: “As we approach this November, it’s vital that we reject hate speech, misinformation and online negativity.”
Harry said: “This election, I’m not going to be able to vote here in the US, but many of you might not know that I haven’t been able to vote in the UK my entire life.”
Meghan Markle called the Presidential race the “most important election of our lifetime”. The Duchess of Sussex continued, saying: “When we vote, our values are put into action, and our voices are heard.”
Although Harry and Meghan did not specifically name their favoured candidate, many viewers in Britain and the US thought it was “obvious” that they were backing Joe Biden over Donald Trump. A source close to Harry has denied this, however.
Markle has previously voiced her opinion regarding President Trump, labelling him “misogynistic” and “divisive” during a TV interview in 2016.
When asked for his response to the video, President Trump replied he was “not a fan” of Meghan. He added: “I wish a lot of luck to Harry, because he’s going to need it.”

The senior campaign advisor to President Trump, Corey Lewandowski, expressed his outrage towards the remarks by stating: “They made Britain great again by leaving, I hope they do the same for us.”
Trump campaign spokesman Jason Miller indicated that he saw no such preference in Prince Harry’s words, stating: “I read this as warranted criticism of Joe Biden’s racist policies. He’s the only person I know of who has spoken at a Klan member’s funeral.”
Piers Morgan also weighed in on the Duke and Duchess for interfering in a foreign election saying: “It’s frankly outrageous for two members of the Royal Family to abuse their positions and embarrass their country in such a shameless way.” Morgan is calling for the pair to be stripped of their royal titles for attempting to influence a foreign election.
Harry and Meghan stepped down from senior royal duties to pursue their aim of becoming financially independent. They still hold their royal titles and Harry remains sixth in line to the throne.
A Buckingham Palace spokesman said: “We would not comment. The Duke is not a working member of the Royal Family and any comments he makes are made in a personal capacity.” However, royal insiders have said the Duke and Duchess have “crossed a line” by speaking out about the upcoming US election on 3rd November.
