In an unprecedented move, Twitter has decided to lock President Donald J. Trump’s account, claiming that the video he put out calling for his supporters to maintain peace and go home following the storming of the Capitol building was causing violence.

The company further threatened to remove the incumbent President’s account altogether if the tweets and video they deemed threatening and containing falsehoods were not removed. The video in question was a response by President Trump telling his supporters to vacate the Capitol and return home.

The video was also subsequently deleted by social media giant Facebook from all its platforms, including Instagram, and no uploads of the video by independent users are currently permitted. The White House is also believed to have called a travel and media ‘lid’, which means that there will be no more public appearances by the President tonight. Meanwhile, Congress has returned to resume vote certification after all the protestors were dispersed.
