The BBC have come under fire again for their woke position on diversity, which has now taken the form of ‘positive discrimination’.
This time, the BBC have promoted a trainee position which has been open exclusively for ethnic minorities and will not be open to white applicants.
The trainee job is worth £17,810 for the year, with the applicant working as a trainee production management assistant role with its Science Unit in Glasgow. The role will include working on well-known BBC programs, such as “Springwatch” and “The One Show”.
The job was advertised by a group called ‘Creative Access’, which specialises in increasing the number of ethnic minorities working in media.
On the job advert, the group say: “The successful candidate will be someone with a desire to build a career in the TV industry and a demonstrable interest in BBC Studios” and is “only open to black, Asian and ethnically diverse candidates”.
This advert is not officially illegal, since while the Equality Act 2010 outlaws discrimination for jobs, an exclusion is made for trainee roles in order to bolster diversity.
A BBC spokesperson said on the issue of the advertisement: “The BBC is a welcoming, inclusive organisation committed to representing and reflecting our audiences. We support a scheme organised by Creative Access, an independent organisation dedicated to increasing diversity in the creative industries, which provides development roles, fully in line with the Equality Act.”
