Home Secretary Priti Patel has accused dozens of ethnic minority Labour MPs of racism.
A letter from opposition MPs claimed that she used her “heritage and experiences of racism to gaslight the very real racism faced by black people and communities across the UK”.
Naz Shah, the shadow communities secretary, organised the letter in a response to Ms Patel’s statement on demonstrations and violence in the wake of George Floyd’s killing.
Ms Shah had an issue with Ms Patel’s statement that “when it comes to racism, sexism, tolerance for social justice I will not take lectures from the other side of the house”.
32 MPs have signed the letter which told Ms Patel that “being a person of colour does not automatically make you an authority on all form of racism”.
“Reflect on your words and to consider the impact it had towards black communities in the UK trying to highlight their voices against racism”.
Ms Patel told Sophy Ridge on Sunday, “They clearly take the stance and the position that I just don’t conform to their preconceived idea or stereotypical view of what an ethnic minority woman should stand for and represent. That in itself is racist. It’s very disappointing. I’m not going to dignify that letter any further”.
It is outrageous that Ms Patel is subjected to this bullying and persecution purely for holding a different view. These Labour MPs think that everyone who isn’t white should have the same belief. The same, ‘I’m the victim and I’m always right’ mindset. They see nothing else in Priti Patel other than her skin tone and judge her views based on that alone.
“Being a person of colour does not automatically make you an authority on all form of racism”. Yet, when it comes to these Labour MPs, apparently it does. Their self-righteous stance of thinking they speak for everyone of colour is both pure ignorance and of unparalleled arrogance.
